All Saints Remembrance Service
“All Saints Day” is November 1st.
In the church we have a special Sunday when we pause to remember and celebrate the lives of those who have passed away since the previous “All Saints” remembrance. This year, that will be Sunday morning, November 2nd.
During the worship service we will read the names of those who were a part of our congregation, or families in our congregation. We will also have white candles lighted and white roses on the altar in their memory.
The names we have to be read on November 2nd include: Patty Huddleston, Suzanne Carter, Harold Raines, and George Lewis.
If you are aware of others please contact us in the church office (office@firstmarshall.com), or by calling 903-938-6622.
Daylight Savings Ends
We are confident there will be no drowsy congregants in church next Sunday, November 2nd due to everyone getting an extra hour of sleep. Don't forget to set your clocks back!
Save-the-Date
There will be a congregational meeting following the worship service on Sunday, November 9th to discuss building updates.
Holiday News / Ministries
Each year Mission Marshall provides Christmas-oriented foods to clients in December so that they can provide a Christmas dinner for their families. Marshall churches sign up to provide certain foods to make this possible. This year 1st Methodist has pledged to provide 250 cans of cranberry sauce. If you would like to donate, there will be two boxes available (lobby & nursery entrance) to drop off cans. They will be delivered to Mission Marshall on November 20th.
It is that time of year when we begin to prepare our hearts for the celebration of the birth of our Savior. And what better way to prepare than to fill a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child (OCC), a project of Samaritan's Purse. OCC delivers into the hands of children all around the world, not only gifts to light up their world but most importantly, the gospel to fill their souls. Since 2009, over 46 million children have participated in a 12-lesson discipleship course, The Greatest Journey, and over half of those have made a decision for Christ. Won't you please help us this year by filling a shoebox for a needy child to show them God's love in a tangible way? Shoeboxes will be available for pickup at the entrance to the church this Sunday, October 19th. If you have any questions, please email Ruth Wilson. (6wilson@sbcglobal.net)
Stay tuned for updates as we continue to add new activities to our calendar!
Pastor David's sermon this Sunday will focus on what it means to achieve true greatness. Sermon notes can be found on our website under the "Resources" tab.
